BLOG POST 4 > WRITE ABOUT A PHOTOGRAPH THST IS MEANINGFUL TO YOU

Hello everyone! I think a good photograph is "photograph 51". This one is an X-ray diffraction image of DNA, and it was taken by Rosalind Franklin in May in 1952. She was a British scientist, she studied chemistry in the university of Cambridge.

This photograph is so important because this photo provided very notable information about the structure of DNA. This is a controversial photo, because it allowed other scientists to create the current structure of DNA and they won a Nobel prize for their contributions, but they didn't give credit to Rosalind Franklin. Could it have been her gender that prevented her prize? We don't know, but it's a really good hypothesis. In fact, only when she died, one scientist accept her collaboration.

For me it’s so interesting, because it’s an important event for the scientific history and for the community of women scientists, this feminine contribution being forgotten.

  2. Hi Fer, think it is important to highlight his role and how his gender perhaps affects him. On the other hand, the photo you talk about is interesting, since DNA is a very important macromolecule.
